Provide your input on redesigning the YMCA Community Center here:
After decades of heavy use, the Maplewood YMCA Community Center (which the City owns) is in need of generational repairs. Instead of investing in a nearly 35-year-old building, Maplewood is looking at a redesign that meets future recreational and community needs.
In coordination with architect LSE, the City is engaged the community on what a redesign element they'd like to see.

A modern community center would:
- Better support, health, wellness, and everyday recreation for residents of all ages.
- Provide safe, positive spaces for youth and POTENTIALLY expand access to childcare outside school hours.
- Strengthen community partnerships and expand programming opportunities.
- Improve accessibility for both active and less mobile residents
What repairs are needed:
- Years of heavy use have led to visible wear and underlying infrastructure issues, especially in high-traffic and high-moisture areas.
- Roof damage, cracking floors, drainage problems in the gym, and corrosion in pool areas point to aging HVAC and filtration systems that need updating.
- Mechanical systems and safety features no longer meet current building and code standards.
- Awkward layouts and inflexible room configurations limit the programs and services residents have said they want.
- Changing needs within a growing community.
Without coordinated reinvestment, these issues will become more expensive and disruptive to address over time.
