Communications Monopole - 1210 Sterling St S

Verizon Wireless is seeking approval for a 125-foot freestanding communication tower at 1210 Sterling Street South, the location of the ski jump. The tower will support antennas, radios, and all associated equipment. Space is reserved for one future carrier.

The non-profit that owns the property wants to move the equipment off the ski jump due to concerns that the structure will not be able to hold needed equipment upgrades. City code limits the height of towers to 125 feet in residential zoning districts, and towers are required to be setback from the nearest residential structure the height of the tower plus 25 feet—in this case, 150 feet. The applicant’s plans meet both the tower height and setback requirements.

In 2023, the property owner sought approval for a 195-tower, which required a variance. The planning commission recommended denial, and the applicant withdrew their request before the city council made a final decision.
