Hazard Trees on Private Property

Hazard Tree Definition

A hazard tree is a dead, dying, or structurally defective tree that could cause property damage or injury if the tree fails.  Maplewood's tree ordinance gives the City authority to require a hazard tree to be removed as a matter of public health and safety.

Abatement Process for Hazard Trees on Private Property

Contact the City if you believe a tree on an adjacent property poses a hazard to your property.  The City's contracted forester will inspect the tree to determine if it is a hazard tree.  If deemed a hazard, the City will notify the property owner and require that the tree hazard be abated.
