The Friends of Maplewood Nature is a non-profit group of volunteers that was formed in 2006 in an effort to support additional programs and projects that tight city budgets can't. The Friends are supported by memberships, proceeds from calendar sales, and donations. These are some of the ways Friends has helped:
Funded the Energy Bike Exhibit, Children's Nature Play Area, and The Priory Interpretive Guide
Contributed funds toward the solar panels and display, and The Extreme Green Makeover
Co-sponsors special events such as the Halloween Haunt and Fish Creek events
Consider contributing your talents and abilities as a Friends Board or committee member. The board meets once every two months for about two hours. People with skills in accounting, fundraising, computer graphics, and writing, to name just a few, are needed. Committees include the photo contest and calendar, publicity, and membership.
We continue to invite anyone interested to join the Friends Board to help us keep this organization active. If interested, please contact Jim Beardsley, President, at 651-738-7957, or Ann at the Nature Center at 651-249-2170. You don't need any special skills to join; all interest levels and abilities are welcome, provided you have a love of nature and a desire to help us support the nature center to fulfill its mission.
