Contractor Licensing
City of Maplewood Licensing Requirements
All contractors must be licensed by DOLI or the City of Maplewood as applicable and in accordance DOLI requirements and City ordinances. See below for specific City of Maplewood requirements.
Residential Building- Every contractor doing residential work in Maplewood must be licensed either by the state (BC, CR or RR) or by the city. This is to ensure the contractor carries adequate property damage insurance, general liability insurance, and worker's compensation.
Please note that contractors registered with the state (IR) are not allowed to pull permits.
City License Required
A state license is sufficient only for residential building contractors. All commercial building contractors doing work in Maplewood must be licensed by the City of Maplewood.
Also, all plumbing, heating, gas, excavating, sewer, masonry, etc. contractors must be licensed by the City of Maplewood.
Mechanical - A City of Maplewood contractor license is required for all mechanical contractors. You will need to submit a contractor license application (PDF), a certificate of insurance listing the city as a certificate holder, a copy of your state licenses and a yearly fee of $130.00. All City Contractor Licenses expire on December 31st.
Plumbing - A City of Maplewood contractor license is required for all plumbing contractors. You will need to submit a contractor license application (PDF), a certificate of insurance listing the city as a certificate holder, a copy of your state license and a copy of your Master Plumber's card. There is no fee for city plumbing licenses. All City Contractor Licenses expire on December 31st.
Commercial Building Contractors - A City of Maplewood contractor license is required for all building contractors doing commercial work. You will need to submit a contractor license application (PDF), a certificate of insurance listing the city as a certificate holder, and a yearly fee of $130.00. All City Contractor Licenses expire on December 31st.
