Gervais Area Pavement Rehabilitation

About the Project:

The Gervais Area Pavement Rehabilitation is underway. This project includes the removal and replacement of the failing street pavement, spot replacement of severely deteriorated sections of concrete curb and gutter, minor upgrades to the storm sewer and sanitary sewer systems, replacement of the existing cast iron water main in portions of the project, the installation of a sidewalk on the north side of 11th Avenue from White Bear Avenue to Ariel Street, and the installation of a sidewalk along the east side of Ariel Street from County Road C to 9th Avenue.

Ariel Street is a border street with the City of North St. Paul. Maplewood and North Saint Paul are working together to ensure the project is meeting the needs of both City's residents.

Project Status:

Construction on this project will occur from late May through early November of 2022. This work will occur under through-traffic conditions. Area businesses will remain open and fully accessible throughout construction.

10/5/2022 Update:

The Contractor, T.A. Schifsky and Sons, Inc. began construction in the project area on May 31st .

11th Avenue has had the first two layers of pavement installed and has been reopened to traffic (one lane in each direction). The new sidewalk along the north side of 11th was installed the week of September 26th. The contractor is currently working on grading out the boulevard areas in preparation for the installation of seed and erosion control blanket the week of October 3rd. The contractor hopes to get the boulevard areas restored, along with the final layer of pavement on 11th in the next two weeks.

Ariel Street north of 11th Avenue has had both layers of pavement installed. The contractor will be working on installing the remaining seed and sod over the upcoming weeks. Please note that the contractor will water the sod for 30 days after installation. After that timeframe it is the property owners responsibility to maintain the restored area.

Gervais Avenue between Barclay Street and Hazelwood Street had the concrete curb and gutter, along with concrete driveway ends, installed on Tuesday, October 4th. The contractor will be shaping and compacting the road base the remainder of the week with the goal of installing the 1st layer of pavement on Monday, October 10th or Tuesday October 11th, weather dependent.

The final layer of pavement on the project streets will be installed as soon as boulevard restoration is complete and the manhole are raised to final street grade. We are currently expecting this to occur around the second week of October.
