The City of Maplewood is replacing the Sterling Street Bridge. Construction on the Sterling Street Bridge, located between Carver Avenue and Bailey Road, is anticipated to begin early/mid-August and last about four weeks. The timber bridge will be replaced with a 16’ (width) x 10’ (height) box culvert. This includes widening the roadway up to 8’ to accommodate other users.
Sterling Street will not be open for through traffic, and there will be a detour in place. Residential access to properties will be maintained throughout construction.
Please use caution around the work zone; safety for residents and construction crews is the number one priority. Additional information will be provided closer to construction.
Background: Replacement planning began in 2016 when the City of Maplewood requested proposals for the design of the project. The City had been monitoring the condition of the bridge, which is inspected by Ramsey County. The project received Bridge Bond funding in early 2021, and Northland Grading and Excavating has been awarded the contract. Private utility work to accommodate the project has already begun. This includes the moving of electric and communications lines.
