The County Road B and Arcade Street Improvements, City Project 19-22, is a full street reconstruction project being performed in conjunction with Xcel Energy’s gas main replacement project. Construction is proposed to begin in late May of 2020 and finish in October of 2020. The project includes many improvements including a full removal and replacement of the street pavement and supporting layers along with the addition of new concrete curb and gutter. Utility improvements include the removal and replacement of portions of the watermain system, the installation of additional storm sewer, and repairs to the existing sanitary sewer system. Pedestrian walkways are also proposed along the south side of County Road B, along the west side of Arcade Street (south of County Road B), and along the east side of Arcade Street (north of County Road B).
The City is still moving forward with the County Road B and Arcade Street Improvements at this time, pending final approval by the City Council. Favorable bids were received by contractors and will be brought before Council for consideration in May 2020. If the Council chooses to award a contract at that time, construction would remain on the original schedule, beginning in late May or early June. Xcel Energy still plans to begin construction on the transmission line in early May.
Due to the COVID-19 situation, City staff are actively looking into options allowed through State Statutes to reduce the assessments impact during these uncertain times. Residents in the project area will be updated as soon as further information becomes available.
